Playgwright Information
Lawson Caldwell is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a Masters Degree in Speech and Theatre from the University of South Carolina. After teaching on the college level, Lawson worked in the broadcasting industry for fifteen years. During his spare time, he volunteered for the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in New York City and began writing. The Wisdom Channel, written by Lawson in 1999 was translated into German and performed numerous times in Frankfurt. Lawson is the author of a popular children’s book, “Colors Belong to Everyone”, sold in stores across the country. Playwright’s Bio: • Member of The Dramatists Guild of America. • Plays include The Debutante, The Wisdom Channel, Bea’s Birthday, Diary of a Beauty Queen, Ceremony, Triple Knot, Rudy’s Cakewalk, New England Lodge, Trophy Husbands, Gentleman’s Wish, Prince Charming, Soldiers of Love, Lavender Shore and Leading Men. • An "Equity Approved Showcase" of Lavender Shore was performed during May 2007 at Manhattan Theatre Source in New York as part of the Playground Development Series. • A professional reading of Lavender Shore took place in New York during November 2006 at the Dramatist Guild of America. • A professional reading of Lavender Shore was performed by Actors Theatre of Charlotte in June 2005. • Lavender Shore received Honorable Mention in the Theatre Resources Unlimited (TRU) Reading Series in New York in 2005. • Lavender Shore and Rudy’s Cakewalk placed in the top four finalist in SNAPFest 2004 held in Omaha, Nebraska. • Lavender Shore was a semi-finalist in the American Theatre Co-op’s 2003 Fall Playwriting Contest in La Jolla, CA. • The Wisdom Channel was produced in Frankfurt, Germany by THEATER UNTERM REGENBOGEN in April 2003 - Encore performance November 2003. • Diary of a Beauty Queen was produced in St. Henry, Ohio by the Drama Club at St. Henry High School in December 2004. • New England Lodge was a finalist in the Oberon Ensemble Theatre’s 2002 Reading Series in New York. • Author of the children’s book, “Colors Belong to Everyone”, available in stores across the country. |
