The following is from HANGING, copyright 2004 Lindsay Harris. In this scene, Eris, early 20's, wants her boyfriend's ex-wife Maya to accept a gift, with strings attached.

ERIS:
Oh my God, I am so happy because you are so cool. No, I mean it, you are. Someday I want to be just like you. I mean it. You are so, like, Linda McCartney. Like, guys- I have a lot of guy friends- if a guy is walking down the street, or at a party, or whatever, there are two kinds of women, the women he notices, and the women he doesn’t. And the women that guys don’t notice, it’s like, you can get through life like Stealth Ninja. You can eat whatever, you can wear whatever, nobody’s shouting your name from across the street or calling your cell phone, giving you expensive jewelry or begging you to go to Key West with them. You must have a lot of free time. I bet you have a lot of girl friends, because nobody thinks you can steal their boyfriend or anything, there’s no competition. Like I bet you have so much fun, eating chocolate and watching movies on late night cable. And nobody gets jealous of you, and they like you for your mind. Nobody ever wants to hear what I have to say, like I go to a club and all guys ever want to do is make out with me. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m not stupid, I take advantage of it, but they seem to think I have the Holy Grail between my legs, and they’re Ponce de Leon. And- What? Ok, so like, anyway, the point is, you are so lucky you don’t have to put up with that kind of pressure. You are gonna be a great friend. Cause like I’ll be thirty someday and I’m gonna need some women friends, right?
